What is electronic ticketing?

Electronic tickets are given for offences relating to road safety policy such as parking, speeding, alcohol, drugs, overloaded vehicles, etc., as well as other national security offences relating to compliance with public health, pollution, or noise regulations. They are issued using portable electronic devices, on-board computer terminals (OBTs) or desktop computers.

Offences recorded by these devices are sent directly to the National Processing Centre (CNT) in Rennes, which sends a notice of offence to the person intercepted or to the holder of the registration certificate of a vehicle that has been fined, particularly in the case of parking.
