Understanding your fixed penalty notice

A fixed penalty notice is sent to the vehicle owner (i.e. the person whose name is on the registration certificate) when an offence has been detected by an automated traffic enforcement camera, or an enforcement officer (with or without the vehicle being stopped), or when a designation is made (by your company, a hire firm, or a private individual, etc).

The notice includes the following details:

  • description of the offence (date, place, type)

  • amount of the fine to be paid, which may be reduced (rebate) or increased (surcharge) depending on the deadline for payment

  • how to pay the fine or appeal it.
