I'm making an appeal, why do I still have to pay a deposit?
In some cases, a deposit (sum of money consigned with the Public Treasury) is needed to appeal against an offence.
The reason for this is to limit excessive appeal claims.
The
amount requested corresponds to the amount of the fine for the relevant offence.
After the appeal the Automated Traffic Enforcement Treasury will return your deposit if the Public Prosecution Officer decides to dismiss your fine and take no further action, or if a judge declares that you have been acquitted.
